Scott and I met in September 2014, just before we started our senior year at the University of Maryland. We attended a party at a mutual friend's home. Lucky for us, this wasn't your typical college party. The house where we met was about to be demolished; the owner was indifferent to the condition the home was left in. Upon meeting, we bonded over breaking bottles of cheap beer against the wall of a bedroom and flooding the kitchen. Since then, we have attended tamer parties as a couple, refrained from breaking bottles of slightly more expensive beer, and haven't purposely flooded anything!
I proposed to Tayler on February 8, 2020. We had browsed for engagement rings the month before, so she knew what was coming. To maintain the element of surprise, I enlisted the help of one of the Maids of Honor, Iris. I had her suggest a double date at a nice restaurant that we wanted to try. Tayler would have been too suspicious if I had made the reservation, so I gave Iris all the details and had her pass along the information. The night of arrived and I told Tayler that it was time to leave for the restaurant. As we were walking out, I broke the news to her that our friends would not be joining us. I ensured her it would still be a night for celebration as I got down on one knee and proposed. She said yes! We kissed, we hugged, she cried. Finally, I told her our reservation was actually in an hour so she had time to fix her makeup.
