It was the summer of 2018. Love was in the air when Taylor asked his good friends if they knew any wholesome woman that were looking to slum it for a change. It was TJ Watt who had just such a girl in mind. To this day it is unclear whether he saw a genuine connection or simply knew the fact that both enjoyed soccer. A few days later, buoyed by the support of his intramural dodgeball team (and several post-game pitchers of Bud Light) Taylor texted Rachel for the first time at an hour that was most likely unbefitting of such a respectable young woman. Fortunately for our young hero, Rachel happened to be traveling on the west coast at this time and was not perturbed. On August 22nd 2018, the two had their first date where they attended the Hudson River Derby - a soccer match between the New York Red Bulls (Taylor’s longtime team) vs NYCFC (a new team in the MLS at the time). Much to Taylor’s chagrin, Rachel elected to support NYCFC in an attempt to annoy Taylor. She succeeded that day and has been succeeding in annoying him ever since :) Over the years, the two have bonded over their love of trees, plants, stars, cookies, trivia, garden parties and of course Liverpool Football Club. Taylor first knew he loved Rachel when she responded appropriately to a bittersweet Jimmy Eat World music video. Rachel first knew she loved Taylor when he bought her Sonic and took her to Toy Story 4 at a drive in movie theater. Equally profound moments. On April 10, 2024, Taylor proposed to Rachel (after waiting all week for a few minutes of sunshine on the very foggy Ireland coast) and, spoiler alert, Rachel said yes! The two can’t wait to make it official, and celebrate their love with all the people they love on June 21, 2025!!!
