Our Story

Taylor and Easton first met some time while attending Point Loma Nazarene University in 2014 or 2015. Easton was a freshman, busy with soccer and adjusting to life in San Diego. Taylor was a senior, on his way out of school with eyes set on what might be next. They remained nothing more than acquaintances for a few years. After graduation, Taylor started small businesses OB Beans Coffee Roasters and Wailua Shave Ice San Diego with friends. A few years later, Easton began working as a barista at OB Beans after graduation. Slowly, they got to know each other better. Conversation came easy and hobbies aligned. Soon enough, Taylor spent most of his days in the front of the shop making shave ice and looked for any excuse to prep in the back of the house to be close to Easton. Over the summer of 2019, they gradually spent more and more time together. It started as BBQs at the Freeman house with friends and progressed to frequent open ocean swims along sunset cliffs. By the end of the summer, it was clear Taylor wanted to be more than friends, and expressed as much with Easton. But… Easton had other plans. She was clearly interested, but her fright of commitment led her to run away. Far far away, all the way to San Sebastián (Taylor’s version… Easton would just say she had committed to teaching abroad in Spain and had no intention or interest in starting a long distance relationship). While it was hard, Taylor understood and even encouraged her to go. As Easton began a new chapter in her life, the two agreed to keep in touch by writing letters, old school. Easton didn’t want constant texts or FaceTimes to get in the way of new experiences and Taylor is an old soul who thought this would be the best way to continue growing their relationship. He wrote often, and had letters ready to send as soon as he received Easton’s response. She was still living the dream and remaining present in the Basque Country, but she appreciated Taylor’s support and pursuit from back home.. finding herself excited each time she would see a new letter in her mailbox. In Taylor’s stubbornness, he wouldn’t give up. On Christmas Day he hopped on a flight to join Easton and some friends to snowboard in Switzerland. He ended up extending his stay to visit San Sebastián before returning to the states. They had a great time together, but with her sights set on staying in Spain, Easton felt the timing still wasn’t right. Taylor knew what he wanted. They both prayed for clarity, and Taylor specifically prayed for Easton to give him a chance. In the Spring of 2020, the world stopped and Easton took the last flight out of Bilbao to return home as Spain locked down (maybe Tay’s prayers answered? kidding..). She moved home to Vancouver, WA without any certainty on her future. Letters weren’t enough and they began communicating more frequently. Over the summer, Easton visited San Diego for work, and they spent everyday together. By the end of summer, she was ready to move back to San Diego. For herself and for their relationship. The following 3 years were full of learning, growing, pursuing a deeper love for one another, and trusting God will take care of the unknown. They have found that their differences have brought balance and teamwork, while their shared interests and goals in life have kept life spontaneous and fun together. They are so excited for this next chapter together!
