Tay and Benji met on the drumline at the University of Washington in August of 2018. Being in different subsections, they didn't interact with each other too much to start. Benji claims he tried to talk to Tay at drumline camp and she ignored him, Tay claims she has no recollection of this interaction and swears she probably didn't hear him. We may never know the true story! What really kicked off their love story was their shared commute (I know, how romantic!) They both took the Light Rail after rehearsals and ended up riding together 3-4 times a week. For fun, they would hop off at Capitol Hill station to get fries and milkshakes from Dick’s Burgers in Seattle. They spent a lot of time riding Penny Boards around the UW campus and hanging out with friends. Their first official date would be on November 4th, 2018, when Benji would take Tay to Red Robin’s for dinner. Six years later it’s still their favorite date night restaurant. After only six months of dating, Benji moved into Tay’s apartment. Their relationship has survived three apartments, two houses, a global pandemic, and a puppy. On August 4th, 2023, they bought their first house together in Tacoma and they couldn’t be happier with it. In addition to their dog Kona, they also have two cats, Millie and Maya. Not long after buying their house they bought a 1999 Chevy Astro van and converted it into a camper van. They enjoy camping throughout the year and in June 2024, they took a road trip around the Olympic peninsula. They stopped to camp at the Tree of Life at Kalaloch Beach, where Benji got down on one knee and proposed to Tay. These days, they enjoy camping, hiking, roller skating, and binge watching tv together. They also enjoy having game nights with friends, or a night out at their favorite pub. But for them, nothing beats a night in together, cuddled up on the couch with their fur-babies, watching obscure YouTube documentaries.
