In our six years of being together, there have been some ups and downs, and over time, we've (intentionally or otherwise) created a few sayings that have helped shape our relationship, as well as reflect the lessons we've learned together. "Be curious": the day we became exclusive, I (Taylor) invited Brian to a "White Out Party" that a D&I company I used to work for was hosting, but we really didn't know what to expect. We both dressed in white, as per the invite, showed up at a club in downtown Austin at 4PM (while it was still light out), and immediately recognized that we were the youngest people there by a decade. We spent the night laughing and drinking and making up lives for all the people in the room we'd never met. After that, we knew there was something special because we managed to turn a weird night into a great one by just saying "yes". "Always go a little bit further": It was late night and we were stuck in an airport. We had been traveling all day and we were waiting for a connection flight. Exhausted and hungry, we poked along the Chicago airport for something that wasn't dripping in grease, but out of necessity, we stopped at Burger King and ate our sad dinners. But after wiping disappointment off our fingers, we rounded the corner and were faced with the swankiest bar/BBQ place we'd ever seen in an airport. If we had gone just a little bit further, we could have enjoyed a real treat. "If you have to watch a bad horror movie, make it a double feature": Anyone who knows us knows we love movies, specifically horror movies -- specifically specifically BAD horror movies. But sometimes too much of a goodbad thing gets to be a little much and you can't see ketchup the same way. So, when we can, we like to pair old bad movies with new bad movies -- i.e Prom Night 1980 and Prom Night 2008. Or Black Christmas 1974 and Black Christmas 2006. Or Piranha 1978 and Piranha 2010. If you're gonna suffer, suffer twice. "Baby Babooshka said 'Mr. Gorbachev leave up this wall'": okay, this one is kinda silly and there's loads of variations, but it involves our angel girl, Darcy. What started as a joke one day when I put a hand towel over Darcy's head and giving her those "Russian peasant woman" vibes has turned into a constant source of laughter and joy for us. Whether it's in bed on a Saturday morning with the blanket over Darcy's ears, or when we watch Rocky IV for the 8th time, we can't help but make up new edicts for Baby Babooshka. If you didn't know by now, we're a little weird. "You're my best friend": there's no story behind this. It's just the truth, always and forever.
