It was the summer of 2008. I was on vacation while one of the biggest cultural festivals was occurring in my hometown of Dallas. I was upset that I was missing out on an event where everyone I knew were getting together. Once I had returned, I logged into MySpace and came across photos from the festival and I noticed someone. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She had a gorgeous smile, with pink highlights and was at front & center in almost all the cultural dances. After thorough investigation, I finally found her Myspace profile and proceeded to send her a friend request. Unfortunately, my plan to reach out to her and strike up a conversation did not work out so smoothly. She dodged all my moves and messages, I was out of luck... A few months later, I went to an event at the Cowboys Stadium. My mom sent me to a food stall and I had been waiting in line for quite some time. As I was looking around I noticed someone staring at me from the neighboring stall. I was stunned as I realized who it was; the girl from Myspace. Our eyes were locked in and I knew this was my moment…”my palms were sweaty, knees weak, arms were heavy, I was nervous, but on the surface I was calm and ready”… I had left my spot in line at the busy food stall and started to walk towards her (a romantic Bollywood song was playing on full blast nearby, making this moment quite dramatic and work in my favor). I finally approached her and introduced myself and proceeded to use the oldest line in the playbook - “I think I know you from somewhere”… By the end of our conversation, I built up the courage to ask for her number and to my surprise she had accepted my request to stay in touch. I remember her saying - “I’m glad we can be friends”… which I thought was funny because she had no idea I already made her my girlfriend and also that I’d be marrying her one day, but of course I kept that part to myself and responded “I’m glad we’re friends too.”
