It is always good to travel with pesos in Mexico for tipping or purchasing knick-knacks at the Market. You can obtain pesos from your local bank approx 1 week in advance or find a local ATM once you arrive at the airport. You will also be able to pay with your CC in most places.

Question

What should I wear to the wedding?

Answer

Think garden party cocktail attire. But if that doesn't hit the spot, go with semi-formal casual cocktail and comfortable. Suggestive wear for women: bright cocktail or mid-length dresses. Suggestive wear for men: linen, sports coat, light-colored pants with a white dress shirt or guayabera. Don't overthink it! Opt for stylish yet practical. Temps will be in the mid 80s - 70s

Question

Do I need to know Spanish?

Answer

Fluent English speakers are not as common here so we suggest using Google Translate or similar for reviewing menus, etc. That said, people are friendly so don't be shy in asking for what you need.

Question

Is street food safe?

Answer

We don't suggest drinking the tap water, but it is OK for brushing teeth, washing hands and showering. From a food perspective, Merida is becoming more well known for its culinary scene which means they wash fruits and vegetables and cook foods with filtered water. It is also very easy to find a little street store, OXXO or SIX to purchase water bottles.
