Yes.
Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the most easily accessible and reasonably priced flights. Tulum is about 1.5 hour drive from the airport, so buckle up and grab a drink/snack!
All travelers will need a valid passport that does not expire within a month of travel. Before landing in CUN, flight attendants will give each family one immigration form that you will have to fill out and provide to security before exiting the airport. They will give you back the bottom portion of that document and HANG ON TO IT because you will need it to board your flight home. Other than that you do not need any other documentation.
Car rentals are available at the airport if you wish to explore all that the Yucatan has to offer. There are parking lots on Punta Allen (wedding venue street) that range between 200-400 pesos (~$10-$20) and only take MXN pesos (we've tried offering to pay in USD, but nope, only pesos). Reminder we have arranged shuttles for the day of the wedding to and from Aloft and KORE. PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE TO THE WEDDING VENUE!
Notice how its not a question...just thought we'd say that again...
If you missed it on our Travel page, our wedding planner will be providing concierge services. They can help with travel to your hotel/resort/airbnb and back to the airport. From there the hotels can help with taxis whereever you'd like to go and there are scooters, bikes and ATVs for day rental almost everywhere in Tulum! If you are staying at a resort outside of Tulum, car rental or taxis will be your only option. Please mention the Tien/Zahorik wedding on the 10/28/22 whatsapp: +52 9982121162 email: zina@taraweddingsandevents.com
There are three main road in Tulum... Avenida Tulum (Tulum Avenue) - This it the road that will take straight into Tulum Downtown from the airport. You can find local shops, little restaurants. CTRA Tulum Punta Allen - If you've seen it on instagram or TikTok, its probably on this road! This is the road the wedding venue will be on along with picture perfect restaurants, clubs, and all of the shops that will have you looking like you were made for Tulum. IT IS A VERY BUSY ROAD WITH LIMITED PARKING - HENCE THE RECOMMENDATION NOT TO DRIVE TO THE WEDDING VENUE. CTRA Tulum Boca Paila - Connecting Avenida Tulum and Punta Allen is this road and where Aloft hotel can be found. This is mostly a connecting road but there are some restaurants and plenty of places to rent scooters, ATVs, and bikes. KORE all-inclusive is at the intersection of this road and Punta Allen.
There are several hotel options including a block of hotel rooms at Aloft and KORE and several large Villas on Airbnb. There are other all-inclusive options but they are further from the wedding venue and will take more than 45 minutes to and from the venue. As you search please keep in mind where the venue is so you are aware of your travel time. NÜ Tulum (wedding venue) is next door to Radhoo and across the street from La Valise (both are hotel options as well). PLEASE let Tatiana and Mike know where you decide to book just so they have it for reference. Thanks!
From the entrance of the main road (Kore is right at the entrance) it takes about 15-25 minutes anytime before 5pm. After that the dinner traffic picks up and it is a very narrow road! If you are staying at a resort outside of the Tulum area, resorts along Avenida Tulum, it can take anywhere from 30-50 minutes to get to the wedding venue depending on traffic. Please also note that shuttles to the wedding venue will only be provided from Aloft and KORE. If you are staying anywhere else you will have to take a taxi to the venue and then our wedding planners on site can help get you get a taxi back home later that night.
This will be updated once a time has been confirmed closer to the date so please check back for that information. If you are not staying at Aloft or KORE but would like to travel there to take the shuttle, please let Mike and Tatiana know so they can inform the transportation team. Aloft pick up time: TBD KORE pick up time: TBD
Please try to be on time as no late entries will be allowed once the groom starts making his way down the aisle. We will re open the doors once the ceremony is over and cocktail hour has started so if you are running late, grab a drink near by and check back in in 15 minutes while Mike and Tatiana say "I Do"!
As of May 2022 the rules are much more relaxed, face masks are required in CUN airport but not in many places outside of that. Some cabs might request you wear masks so just have one handy. You will however need a negative COVID to return to the states. Testing sites can be found on all three main roads previously described. About $25 USD for an Antigen test (results with in 25 minutes, accepted by most if not all airlines) and $80 for PCR.
Preferably not, and make sure the ice in your drinks is pure. Most drinks will have drinkable ice (delivered by guys on little bikes lol). When brushing your teeth, use bottled water and and don't open your mouth in the showers! but stay hydrated on this trip! If you tend to have a sensitive stomach while traveling, maybe bring probiotics to help support your tummy. Ice is normally safe at the restaurants and the bars as it is delivered every morning.
Potentially, but probably not. Jungle critters are a real thing. Bugs, spiders, lizards, snakes, stingrays, jellyfish and jaguars are in the area so we would recommend being careful if you feel the need to venture off the beaten path or into the jungle. There are only ~1,800 jaguars in the Yucatan Peninsula, so unlikely that you'll see or have an encounter with a lorge cat. Highly recommend mosquito repellant and Copals (mosquito smokers) can be found everywhere at venues in Tulum to repel them (smells like incense).
Restaurants, shops and bars are all equipped with mosquito repelling smoke, Copal that you will see, smell and become very familiar with. They do a good job but don't get the job done so we recommend bringing whatever bug repellent that works for you. Besides deodorant we don't recommend wearing perfume or scented lotion as mosquitos are attracted to those smells. If you are prone to bug bites then we also suggest brining itch cream or anti itch medication.
We recommend taking cash out and ordering pesos at your local bank before you depart. With Cancun and Tulum being big tourist destinations we have ran into the issue where the ATM doesn't have money in it (we wouldn't bring it up if it hadn't happen to us multiple times!) You can pay with card and USD at all restaurants but pesos will be handy for cabs, street vendors and parking. Take out what you feel comfortable traveling with.
When it comes to cartel crimes, most of these are against rival gangs and don’t have much to do with touristy destinations. However, robberies do happen, so play it smart. Don’t wander the streets at night on your own, and stay in well-lit areas. If you do need to travel at night, have your hotel call a cab. Never accept a cab that is not clearly identified as one and you should be fine.
Nope, only taxis at this time. GPS can be on the fritz, so try to prepare before you depart on the road.
Whatsapp is an app that you can download and allows you to text and call internationally! Most of the restaurants, guides and museums all have a Whatsapp and tend to communicate with it at no charge.
In recent years this is a BIG tourist destination! Watch your drink and keep your eyes open when you are out in public and you will be just fine. Please stay with your group at the venues at night, and make smart decisions as anyone should when they are traveling internationally.
