The wedding ceremony will be held in a gurdwara. A gurdwara is a place of worship similar to a church. It is also known as a Sikh temple.
We kindly ask that all guests adhere to the following guidelines: Women should wear long, floor-length skirts or dresses, or loose-fitting pants. Nothing tight. No tight pants, jeans or shirts, please. Men should wear suits. Women are asked to also bring a scarf / shawl to cover their heads, while men will be provided with a bandana at the gurdwara upon entry. If any men wish to bring their own bandana this is also okay. TIP: To keep shawl or scarf on top of head without constantly having to adjust you can use bobby pins or hair snap clips to keep it in place.
Upon entering the gurdwara, there will be a lobby where you will be required to remove your shoes and socks. There are shoe racks provided for this purpose to both the right and left once you enter - one side for men and the opposite side for women.
When entering the sacred area of the gurdwara for the ceremony, men and women should be seated on opposite sides of the room. Young children can sit on either side. Please note you will be sitting on the floor. If you prefer back support, we recommend arriving early to sit up against the wall. Please note that your feet should not be pointed towards the front, as this is considered disrespectful.
For any elders or guests with disabilities, there will be chairs located at the back of the room so you do not have to sit on the floor if you simply are unable to.
The reception will take place later in the evening, so you are welcome to change out of the clothes you wore to the gurdwara earlier that morning. For the reception, please feel free to wear whatever you would typically wear to a wedding reception. If you would like to wear traditional Indian clothing, you are more than welcome to do so, but it is not required.
Unfortunately, we simply can't afford all of our guests to bring a guest of their own. Plus ones are therefore by invitation only and we ask other guests to please not bring a plus one. Thank you so much for understanding!
We have set up a hotel block at the Courtyard Edison Woodbridge. The hotel will be conveniently located just around the corner from the venue, making it easier for everyone after a long night of festivities. Please note that the drive from the hotel to the gurdwara (where wedding will take place in morning) will take approximately 45 minutes.
