Taryn and I first met in 2012 while working on a production of A Chorus Line in Buffalo, New York. She was in the pit orchestra; I was onstage, dancing my heart out eight (ok maybe 4-5) shows a week. Somewhere between warm-ups, curtain calls, and the organized chaos that only theatre people truly understand, a random encounter — and a very specific license plate frame — gave me the courage to ask her out after one of our performances. I was so nervous I couldn’t even ask her myself. Instead, I enlisted the Music Director to pass along a message. Very professional. Very smooth. Very not what you’re supposed to do when you’re playing a role in a show about courage and putting your heart on the line. And yet — somehow — before I could overthink it, I found myself sitting across from her at a bar, heart racing, trying to pretend I wasn’t completely smitten. Of course, she wasn’t my wife yet. We had just met. But that night feels as vivid as a spotlight on center stage. It was the first of countless post-show gatherings, the beginning of our love story, and the start of a community of friends and chosen family who have surrounded us ever since. On August 6, 2016, we tied the knot. And now, nearly ten years later, we have something extraordinary to celebrate. For our 10-year anniversary, we’re getting married again. We’ll be renewing our vows — and, since I’ve transitioned, we’ll also be celebrating something beautifully new: the chance to be married for the first time as wife and wife. It would mean the world to us to celebrate this moment with the people who have shared our stages, our tables, our laughter, and our lives. Please join us for a brief vow renewal ceremony at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Buffalo, followed by an open bar and buffet dinner at Bacchus Wine Bar & Restaurant. Come celebrate, reminisce, raise a glass, and share what’s sure to be a beautiful summer evening with us. After all, what’s a love story without ONE more curtain call? We can’t wait to say “I do” — again — with you there. 💛
