Journey to Revolutionary Black Love

Divine Timing

Nia and Tariq met in the Fall of 2016 at a local Atlanta library. Tariq is a cultural Storyteller for children, and on this particular day, Nia had taken her three-year-old daughter, Zenzele, to the library for storytime. Zenzele's enthusiasm for Tariq's performance forced Nia to take notice and interact. Tariq and Nia introduced themselves and Nia learned that along with being an elementary school teacher, Tariq was also a talented painter and a poet who loved to give back to youth in their community. Nia could relate as she was also balancing her poetry, a business career, as well as being the sole parent to Zenzele. Their busy lives demanded that they stay great friends instead of pursuing a committed relationship. After two years of dating, which included patronage of the local arts, heartfelt conversations about strategies for African liberation, and alignment of their own personal goals they realized that their "friendship" had blossomed into a soultastic love! A match made in heaven brought together by God, the two beautiful souls were drawn to each other by fate (and Zenzele's keen insight LOL). In 2018, soon after her Mother's release from a long-term care facility, Tariq proposed to Nia. Within weeks, Nia and Tariq learned that they were expecting Naade, born in February 2019. Surprisingly, months later, soon after her Mother's transition, Nia and Tariq learned that they were expecting another daughter, Asante- Taheera, born in February 2020. Tariq and Nia have infused their love for each other to create a harmonious home/ lifestyle with African spirituality at its center, along with family and community. In the midst of significant individual growth, the transition of close family members, the addition of 2 more daughters, and the current world changes, Tariq and Nia have grown closer and even more committed to their mission of raising a strong Black family. When it comes to love divine timing is everything!
