Persian Ceremony

The Wedding Website of Tara Minaahang and Theodore Rodliff
As part of our celebration, we’ll be embracing the Sofreh Aghd, an ancient Persian wedding tradition dating back thousands of years to the Zoroastrian era. During the ceremony, the couple sit before the Sofreh Aghd, a beautifully decorated spread of meaningful items. Several special rituals take place as well: Honey Ceremony: The couple shares honey on their fingertips to begin marriage with sweetness. Toor (Silk Cloth): A cloth is held above the couple’s heads, symbolizing purity and the blessings that surround their union. Kaleh Ghand (Sugar Cones): Relatives gently grind sugar cones over the cloth to shower the couple with sweetness, joy, and prosperity. Thread and Needle: These symbolize unity and the hope that the couple will always mend, strengthen, and weave love into their life together. Rooted in history, poetry, and family tradition, the Sofreh Aghd is a beautiful reminder that marriage joins not only two people, but two hearts, two families, and two worlds.
