For four years, we were casual friends who danced, laughed, and wished each other well. The White Horse dance floor was our playground, and last year it was where we first saw something in each other that we’d never seen. It was the first spark of something more than friendship, and it grew from one night of dancing to another, then dinner, laughs, friends, and finally, love.
I wrote a song for Tara called Metal Girl In a Cowboy Hat. On the street behind a restaurant full of our closest friends and family, I sat on the tailgate of my truck and sang it to her. The lyric sheet I’d given her had a few tears on it when we walked into the patio full of people wearing black shirts and cowboy hats to surprise our Metal Girl. We celebrated that night—our love for each other and the incredible love we’re surrounded by every day.
