Tanya and Matt met back in 2013 at the Training Kick-Off Meeting for the opening of the first Shake Shack in Boston. At the time, Matt was a premier trainer for Shake Shack, and Tanya was a Manager at the Upper West Side Shack, but their paths had not crossed until they sat across from each other in this meeting.
After many failed attempts to go on a first date, Tanya and Matt finally figured it out at the beginning of 2016! Their first date was a bit of a marathon. It began at a speakeasy in the West Village called Slowly Shirley, followed by Ramen noodle soup in the East Village, and finished at a plantation themed bar. At the very end of the night, before he darted down the subway steps, Matt gave Tanya a sweet peck on the cheek, and the rest is history. On the anniversary of their first date, four years later, they'll tie the knot and become husband and wife!
Since they began dating, Tanya had always talked about taking a trip to Hawaii. Flight prices were great in October, so Matt and Tanya planned a trip. Before departing, a colleague asked Tanya if she thought Matt would propose. Her response was "Definitely not, it's too obvious, and I think Matt really wants to surprise me, so I don't think it's happening on this trip." Boy was she wrong! Matt and Tanya started the trip on the Big Island and loved the relaxed atmosphere. Tanya planned most of the trip and Matt only had two requests, surfing lessons and a sunrise hike on the second leg of their trip in Oahu. Throughout the trip, Matt kept saying, "There was something I was going to ask you, but I can't remember what it was." Tanya thought nothing of it. Around 4:00 am on Saturday, November 3rd, Matt and Tanya woke up to prepare for their early morning hike. After a few small hurdles from the GPS and trail's front gate, they began their hike. After making it to the top of the peak, Tanya stopped to take a video of the breathtaking view. Matt started digging around in his backpack and asked Tanya if she wanted a Cliffbar. She was totally not interested and walked away to sit on the edge of the peak and watch the sunrise. Matt exclaimed, "Where are you going?" and rushed to sit down next to her. Moments later he said, "I remembered what I was going to ask you." Tanya turned to look at Matt and noticed he was holding a ring box. She immediately started crying and fired off what felt like a million questions before Matt could even ask. She finally stopped talking, and Matt snuck in a simple 'will you marry me?'
Matt and Tanya chose to have their wedding on the anniversary of their first date on February 9th. Their wedding day will celebrate all the things that bring people together during the winter season.
