Question

How do I get there?

Answer

To get to St John, you will fly in to St Thomas (STT). Then, take a taxi to the Red Hook Ferry Terminal, which is about 30 min from the airport. Bring cash in case the taxi driver only accepts cash. The approximate cost for the taxi is $15-$20 per person, depending on luggage. The ferry leaves every hour on the hour from Red Hook to St John from at least 6:30am until 10:30pm (and leaves St John from at least 6:00am until 10:00pm). Ferry fare is $8.15 per person and $4 per bag, each way.

Question

What is the STT airport like during Covid-19?

Answer

Make sure to give yourselves ample time to return to the airport when leaving, as there may be many travelers making up for lost time! We made sure to be at the St Thomas airport 3 hours ahead of our flight that was during the summer and in the pandemic.

Question

What if I rent a vehicle?

Answer

If you decide to rent a vehicle, remember to drive on the left side of the road! Also, keep in mind parking is limited at the beaches and restaurants. The cost to bring the vehicle from St Thomas on the barge is $50 round trip or $35 one way. The barge times are at least 6:30am to 5:30pm, leaving every 2 hours.

Question

How do I get around without a rental?

Answer

Taxis are readily available on St John and will be near the ferry when you arrive. They will take you to your hotel, beaches, or any of the restaurants along the way.

Question

What is the Cell Phone/Data Service like?

Answer

AT&T has the most reliable service on St John. Sprint and T-Mobile have limited coverage in the USVI. If you have Verizon, you will be roaming and you will incur fees. As a precaution, be sure to check with your provider before your trip to determine if you will have coverage while traveling.

Question

Is there shopping in St John?

Answer

There are many places on St John that are great for shopping, like Mongoose Junction and The Marketplace. Most stores and restaurants accept cash or credit card, but some are cash only. The US dollar is used on St John and St Thomas.

Question

What will be the schedule of events?

Answer

We are hoping to go to Trunk Bay Beach for snorkeling and swimming and a boat cruise on Fri, 6/3/22; the wedding will be on Sat, 6/4/22; and maybe a pool party/cook out on Sun, 6/5/22. We will be at our villa from Thurs, 6/2/22 until Thurs, 6/9/22. Feel free to hang with us! Make sure to get Kenneth’s AT&T phone number for the best cell service/contact!

Question

What do I wear to the wedding?

Answer

It’s summer, so wear something light and flowy to stay cool. The ceremony is in the late afternoon sunshine, upstairs on a deck. The dinner and reception will be downstairs, open to the night air.

Question

Where can I find Covid-19 travel requirements?

Answer

As of now, flying to the USVI requires getting a Covid test (even if you've been vaccinated and for every traveler aged 5 and older). You must submit your test results through the USVI online portal and get approval within 5 days of departure. Maybe get tested the first 1 or 2 days within that 5 day time period to allow for processing time without stress. That portal is: www.usvitravelportal.com You'll submit your paperwork there and will get an email saying it's been approved (or denied). Providing printed proof of a negative Covid test and proof of the approval from the portal upon arrival is REQUIRED. See www.usviupdate.com for more details.

Question

Do I need a passport to travel to the USVI?

Answer

No, a passport is not required to go to St Thomas or St John. However, if you decide to travel to the BVI during your vacation, a passport is required. As of right now, the British Virgin Islands have re-opened, but please check for travel requirements if you would like to also visit there. https://www.bvitourism.com/

Question

Do I need reef safe sunscreen?

Answer

Yes! They are serious about protecting the coral reefs and it’s required by law, in order to protect the national treasures under water. You can buy it on island but will likely be more expensive, so you’re better off packing it.

Question

Do you have a Registry?

Answer

No, your presence is our presents. No gifts please!
