Question

SHOULD I BRING A GIFT? DO YOU HAVE A REGISTRY?

Answer

Please no boxed gifts and a registry has not been set up as your presence is a gift in itself! But, if you'd like to contribute, there will be an area during the ceremony and reception where you could place your card or envelope :) Thank you!

Question

Do you have transportation to and from the venue location?

Answer

Luckily, St. Louis is a smaller city so everything is nearby! If you're flying in from St. Louis Lambert International Airport, it is about a 15 minute ride to the Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. Uber/Lyft/Taxi are always readily available for your convenience! If you are driving from the Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis to Four Points by Sheraton St. Louis - Fairview Heights, it is a 28 minute drive there and back. If you need any help with directions or planning your travel, please let us know!

Question

Is there parking at the venue?

Answer

Yes! For guests attending the wedding events and staying at the Ritz-Carlton, complimentary self-parking is available in the attached garage. For guests staying at the Le Méridien St. Louis Clayton, we will notify you individually about the parking situation, but it is available.

Question

I've never been to an Indian wedding. What should I expect?

Answer

Indian weddings are very festive and colorful. We would prefer everyone to join in the experience and wear traditional clothing like a saree or lehenga for women and kurta or sherwani for men. For the wedding ceremony, please avoid wearing black, red or white. However, outfits with some white and red is totally okay (for instance, guys wearing white shirts). Alternatively, a long gown or suit would be just fine. Indian outfits are optional but we think it would be really fun if everyone did dress up. Overall, a lot of food, dancing, colorful outfits, and friendly people! So, bring your dancing shoes and you're in for a great experience!

Question

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF Mehndi OR HENNA?

Answer

Mehndi is a temporary natural dye used as an adornment in many South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, and is often associated with special celebrations such as weddings. It is put on the bride's hands and feet a few days before the wedding in intricate patterns that include designs that have symbolic value to the bride and groom. It is also common for female guests to apply mehndi when attending a wedding.

Question

WHAT IS A BARAAT AND CAN I JOIN IN?

Answer

You may have seen Indian wedding clips of a groom riding on an elephant or a horse and may be wondering why is everyone dancing in the parking lot? This is the first part of the wedding called Baraat. Historically, the groom and his family & friends would travel from their village, singing and dancing, to the bride's village. When the groom's caravan reaches bride's home, everyone celebrates and dances in excitement for the next part of the groom's life's. It is the groom's one chance to be the center of attention before the bride steals the show! Groom is ultimately welcomed by the bride's mother and she blesses her future son in law. The bride might also come out to welcome her groom, but only if he's got the right moves! We hope that everyone (especially if you're on the "groom's" side) will join in the dancing as Manthan makes his way to the ceremony and stops him from getting cold feet!

Question

WHY IS THE WEDDING CEREMONY IN THE MORNING AND THE WEDDING RECEPTION IN THE EVENING?

Answer

Indian weddings are comparatively long as they are filled with multiple traditions and rituals. The break between the two events will give you time to re-up your energies and prepare for the party. During the break, the family of the bride and groom as well as the guests typically change from their wedding outfits to the reception outfit.

Question

SO WHAT WILL BE HAPPENING AROUND THE FIRE DURING THE WEDDING ON THE STAGE?

Answer

After the Baraat, the Hindu wedding ceremony begins and everyone will be seated. The ceremony will begin with the bride's family performing a prayer with the groom. The bride will make her entrance following the ceremony. Traditionally a Hindu wedding ceremony can last hours, but we've condensed it to our most meaningful traditions all which are conducted around a small fire. We will be providing a detailed program when you arrive that will help you follow along!

Question

WHAT WILL THE RECEPTION IN THE EVENING BE LIKE?

Answer

Put on your dancing shoes and everybody put their hands up and work those hips! The reception will be a fun party with lots of food and drinks! Expect to hear Indian as well as contemporary music. In terms of dancing, don't worry if you are not a master Bollywood dancer and are not comfortable learning new dances, dance along to the beat and dance to your own rhythm and you will have fun!

Question

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR THE RECEPTION?

Answer

The short answer is your most comfortable formal wear! That could be a long gown/dress for the ladies and a suit with a tie/bow tie for the guys. We ask that you be fancy and dapper for the celebration!

Question

Can I bring a date?

Answer

If your invitation includes a plus one, yes! However, we have a strict guest list to stay within our capacity limit at the venue. Our wedding is strictly RSVP only. We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your invitation.
