It was SEWE (South Eastern Wildlife Exhibition) weekend in Charleston — one of those perfect, buzzing Southern days when the city feels alive. Sean was out with his friend Martin visiting from out of town, and they grabbed seats at The Darling Oyster Bar. Across the bar, Katherine and her friend Kristin were already perched up enjoying some snacks and cocktails, unknowingly about to be part of a plan they didn’t see coming. Katherine noticed Sean chatting frequently with the bartender and so the next time that bartender came by, she leaned in to ask him, “Hey, do you know that guy? Is he single?” He paused, gave her a quick shrug, and said, “Nope, I don't know him,” as he walked away. Moments later, two oyster shooters landed in front of Sean and Martin. No explanation. Across the bar, Katherine and Kristin received the same — with equally confused expressions. When everyone all looked up, the bartender, Dan, just shrugged with a smirk and nodded from one end of the bar to the other, leaving both parties thinking the other had placed the shot order. So after a 2nd shot was actually sent over courtesy of Sean, and with some encouragement from Kristin, Katherine got up the courage to go chat with him. After a few more hours of hanging out and chatting that evening, phone numbers were exchanged and a dinner date was planned. The shots had sparked an unexpected conversation, and the conversation sparked something even bigger — a connection that felt easy, instant, and natural. That night turned into many more. And Dan? He’s been part of the story ever since. They’ve been back to The Darling Oyster Bar many times since that night — always to visit him, always grateful for the small, simple moment of magic he created. So yes, Dan’s invited to the wedding. Because sometimes the universe sends you a sign… and sometimes it sends you a bartender with oyster shots and perfect timing. They say 'The world is your oyster' — Katherine and Sean just took the shot that came with it.
For our second anniversary, Sean brought Katherine to her favorite place in the world — Pawleys Island, South Carolina. It’s more than just a beach town to her — it’s where she spent summers growing up, running barefoot through her grandparents’ beach house, making memories that would stay with her forever. She knew Sean had driven up to Pawleys ahead of her and while she was on her way, he quietly set the scene — filling the kitchen table with rose petals, leaving a perfect heart-shaped space in the middle. It was simple, thoughtful, and full of love. The moment Katherine walked through the front door, she was met with that heart of petals — and Sean down on one knee, ready to ask the biggest question of his life. In the house that held decades of memories, we made one of our own: She said yes.
