Jamie and Tanner first met in February 2021 after being introduced by their mutual friends, Hadei and Marshall. Jamie and Hadei went to school together in Liberty and later attended pharmacy school together at UMKC. Marshall and Tanner went to school together in Kearney and have remained friends ever since. On February 26th, Jamie and Hadei went out for dinner and drinks together to catch up and celebrate Jamie completing all of her residency interviews. They ended up at The Mockingbird Lounge in Strawberry Hill KCK and Hadei decided to invite her boyfriend at the time, Marshall, to join them. Marshall and Tanner already happened to be hanging out on this evening, so he came along as well. The four of them ended up staying at the bar until they closed at 2 am that night just chatting. Jamie and Tanner immediately got along well but were both in long-term relationships. They spent many months crossing paths as friends. Eventually, both Jamie and Tanner ended up single and were encouraged to go on a date together by Hadei and Marshall. It took some convincing as they both agreed they wanted to stay single for a while after getting out of their relationships. Tanner asked Jamie to go out with him after walking her to her car when leaving a bar one night. While he was asking, a homeless man across the street was yelling at Jamie to give him a ride so it was really a romantic experience. Jamie was desperate to get away from the yelling man, so she said maybe. (Sorry Tanner!!) For their first date, Tanner took Jamie to Café Gratitude which is a cute little vegan restaurant in the Crossroads. Jamie is not vegan, but he knew that she had food allergies and wanted to make sure that the food would be safe for her to eat. The first date made such a good impression on Jamie that she fortunately said yes to future dates.

Tanner and Jamie went on a trip to Colorado to see Tyler Childers at Red Rocks Amphitheater. They spent several days in Colorado Springs before heading north toward Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). On the last day of their trip, Tanner had planned a hike at RMNP. They arrived at the Bear Lake Trailhead and hiked a little over a mile to Dream Lake. Tanner picked out a quiet area that overlooked the lake and set up his phone so they could take a picture together. When Jamie turned around to get in the frame for the picture, Tanner got on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said yes! Tanner was so nervous he even forgot to put the ring on her finger at first. He couldn't have picked a more perfect spot to propose.
