Tania and Mitch first met the day after Mitch's 33rd birthday in the most romantic place in all the land - a bar in downtown San Francisco ("Aventine" on Washington St.). Mitch was going to meet his friend, Sandra, (hi Sandra!) who had asked her own friend, Tania, to join in for a few drinks (unbeknownst to Mitch). Mitch was immediately struck by Tania's beauty, intelligence, and confidence. Tania thought Mitch was... funny. A few post-work cocktails segued into a spontaneous sushi dinner at Mas Sake, followed by late night dancing at S.F.'s infamous Comet Club. The night ended with a tender kiss, and Mitch recalling his favorite line from F. Scott Fitzgerald's, The Great Gatsby: “And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again..."
Mitch proposed to Tania the afternoon of Dec. 2nd, 2017, at the edge of Cavallo Point in Sausalito, CA, in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. In prep for the proposal, Mitch had suggested to Tania an impromptu picnic somewhere in Marin County (where Mitch had grown up). En route to Cavallo Point, the pair stopped at a local grocery store to pick up sandwiches - Mitch grabbing his go-to salami on sourdough; Tania opting for her favorite, tuna fish in a spinach wrap. Since Mitch hates tuna fish, upon arrival at Cavallo, he was quick to propose to Tania (he wanted to do it before she started eating the wrap). This led to a nervous exchange, with Mitch dropping to one knee quickly and asking Tania to marry him, and Tania - startled by the gesture - not responding at all. Mitch eventually confirmed an emphatic, "YES!", from Tania... Oh and both sandwiches were delicious... That night, Mitch had arranged a secret engagement party at their favorite SF spot, Izzy's, where Mitch surprised Tania by having her parents fly up from L.A., along with several other family members and friends. It was one of the greatest nights of their lives.
