In the beginning

Love and pursuit of happiness

Ade's version: A petite girl ran into Ron Bannon's Calculus II class, late as hell but right before attendance roll call ended. Bannon said "Temi you are late again" and She laughed and found a seat in the front close to her friend. I noticed that she was answering questions and was so full of life. It was my first day in that class because I started the semester a week late. I thought to myself "Uhmmn maybe I should approach this girl after the lecture for course updates." After class, I walked up to her while she was talking to her friends and I couldn't help but notice how tiny her feet were in her black and white slip-on Vans. We talked, and she agreed to help me catch-up on school work and even offered to help me with my homework. As time went on, I found myself wanting to hang out with her more and now we are 10 years deep. I love her spontaneous and caring nature and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with her. Temi's version: I met Adeniyi in the fall of 2009 at Essex county college. When he approached me, I thought to myself "Hmmm he is tall and handsome but a little skinny". I was happy to help him with school work and to make a new friend. We started talking and I noticed I loved being around him. It took one instance for me to confirm that his feelings were mutual. It was when we went to pick Daniel up from school one day and as Ade was dropping us off at my house, he asked: "what are your plans for the day?" I said, "I am chilling with my friend, Tumise." He wasn't too happy with my response, then I suggested going to his place instead and his eyes lit up. I told him "So you really like me?". He looked at me and smiled. He is definitely a man of few words and all actions. Ade is a man whose actions speak louder than words. He has been a blessing to me and everything feels right.

The proposal

She kept saying: I knew it!

Adeniyi's perspective: It was hard to pull off the proposal. Temi was going to ruin her surprise with all the "What are you guys planning" talk. I was so excited to take it to where we first met, Essex County College. I contacted Ron Bannon, our favorite professor, to send Temi an email stating that he is organizing a STEM program reunion and he would love for her to be there. However, she never checks her email, and she has multiple email addresses, which made it difficult to solidify the plan. I moved to plan B, and I asked her cousin Ekene to send her resume for Temi to review, but she still didn't check the email. I created another plan and asked her friend Laurence to act like she would attend the ECC reunion to get Temi to come. Temi's response to her was also not too promising. I finally had to get her friend Kathleen to lure her with "comedy show tickets." to get her to come from Maryland to New Jersey. Thank God, she spontaneously decided to not only go to the comedy show but, also the ECC reunion. When she arrived, she was getting cranky because her friend Laurence was not yet at the 'reunion' and the security guards did not let her into the technology building. I had to improvise, so I proposed to her in front of the building. I was surprised because she actually cried! Temitope's perspective: I have a love and hate relationship with surprises. I suspected that something was going on and I kept asking my cousin Dupe to confess, which she never did. Eventually, I decided to "go with the flow". I remember getting upset when Laurence wasn't picking up when I got to ECC, coupled with the fact that the security guards wouldn't let me into the technology building. I started threatening to leave when I saw Ade walk up to me with a bouquet of red roses; I started running and screaming, I knew it! I was shocked by the turnout. I was also excited to see my family and friends. I was surprised that I was emotional, although I was expecting it at some point, lol.
