Like many couples, Tan and Nick met online. After matching on Hinge in Summer 2021, they had their first date at Jaho coffee shop in Boston’s Chinatown on July 21st. While Nick was notably shy during the date, he was enamored by Tan’s laugh and smile. For Tan's part, she was surprised that Nick was actually as tall as he claimed to be! Their date was lovely, but Tan’s imminent move from Cambridge to Maryland for graduate school loomed over the day. While initially hesitant to enter a long distance relationship, Nick had a discussion with a stranger at a bar in Somerville who encouraged him to go for it. After Nick made a few visits to Maryland and Tan made a few return visits to Boston, they became a couple on August 29th, 2021. Four years of long distance followed, with countless nights on video calls and drives to the DMV. Even through the toughest of times, they kept faith in each other and the relationship. In August 2025, Tan and Nick finally moved in together in Georgetown, DC. Now together, they were able to try even more restaurants, create even more inside jokes, and finally teach Tan how to play tennis. Living together brought them even closer and affirmed their love and commitment to each other. In anticipation for his move to Switzerland in 2026, Nick proposed to Tan on January 17th 2026. They were married in a small civil ceremony with their immediate families on March 2nd 2026. We are so excited to celebrate our marriage with friends and family at the International Tennis Hall of Fame on October 17th 2026!
