Meeting casually at a firehouse 15 years ago this March would never have led either one of us to believe we would be here today, making this commitment to each other, surrounded by our closest family and friends. Evan had paid attention to my coffee order, and caught me off guard with "I guess the way to your heart is..." as he proceeded to ramble it off. This led into one of the sweetest invites to spend some time together for pizza and exploring Philadelphia. It was one of the warmest Marches I have ever experienced, and seeing those blue eyes, I felt compelled to accept. We walked the entire city that evening. It feels like that evening never ended. The rest is a forever to be continued....! With all that we have faced together over the last 15 years, we decided we are all in till death do us part!
We have faced many challenging life events over just the last 5 years together as a couple. The last year working as an ICU nurse during the COVID pandemic has definitely been one of the most challenging times emotionally and physically for both of us. It definitely makes you prioritize what truly is most important. I had just gotten home from work at the end of a very long work week and had changed into comfy flannels. Evan had a drink waiting for me and was making dinner. We were catching up on goals for the new year and Evan said that he had been thinking a lot about our up-coming 15th year together. The next thing I knew he was down on one knee and stated, "I have no idea what I've been waiting for..." and very sweetly asked if I would marry him. I, being very surprised, started to giggle and asked how many gin and tonics he had prior to my coming home from work? My answer was obviously yes, and here we are today!
