Our story almost wasn’t. In December 2017, Tamir nearly deleted the dating app that we met through. Thankfully, she decided to log into Coffee Meets Bagel one last time before taking a break from the world of dating. When she logged in, Nii Ato had asked Tamir a really good question that sparked her interest and the rest is basically history. We met for our first date at 6pm on the night of January 14th, 2018 at a Moroccan restaurant in South Orange, NJ. Four hours later...we had basically shut the restaurant down and had laid the foundation for a relationship, based on a free-flowing and unfiltered exchange of thoughts and feelings. One month later, on February 19th, Nii Ato officially asked Tamir to be his girlfriend. We have not gone a single day without exchanging a Whatsapp message or phone call, since that first night... Our relationship has been based on the notion of “Grounded Freedom,” which is the title of a poem Tamir wrote for us in the early days of our relationship. When we are together, there is a sense of safety, trust, and humility that grounds us and gives us the ability to be free and our true, authentic selves.
