A mutual friend said, "Hey, do you know Drew Johannsen? You guys would make a really cute couple." He looked familiar, so I looked him up on Facebook. I couldn't place where we'd met before, but I thought, "He's cute. Why not?" I sent the friend request. Less than 5 minutes later I had a message in my inbox. A few hours of flirting later, he asked me out for our first date. Obviously it went well. Making the first move pays off.
In March of 2020 surrounded by rising COVID cases, shut downs, and Drew's upcoming deployment, we knew we wanted to promise ourselves to each other forever. The week before shut down we got all dolled up and headed to Sioux Falls. We stopped to walk through Falls Park and found a landing spot overlooking the falls. I was fascinated by this goose standing on the edge of a rock at the precipice of the falls. Suddenly the goose picked up one of its legs, balancing precariously on the remaining leg in the rushing water. I, of course, had to exclaim to Drew, "Look at that goose!" (crickets chirping) I turned to where Drew had been next to me to see he wasn't there at all but down on one knee behind me with a little black box in his hand. His speech was much more profound than my last words as his girlfriend.
