As many of you know, Tamara and Ben work together for the same organization in Pittsburgh called Neighborhood Allies. The first time they met was during Tamara's job interview, actually. She showed up at the office and asked Ben if he was going to sit in during her interview with their boss. "I'm a pretty fun person," she said, "You should do it!" Little did she know that Ben would end up asking her the most difficult questions during the interview process (even though Ben doesn't recall any of that). After that day, Tamara and Ben went their separate ways, not seeing each other again until almost one year later. Now you are probably wondering what happened after the interview and why it took a year before she began working for the organization. Well, without getting into the weeds of American politics and the inefficiencies of bureaucracy, Tamara needed to successfully apply for and obtain a work visa before she could continue living and working in Pittsburgh. Simply put, this process just took a very long time. In the meantime, Tamara was living back home in Nassau (that's in The Bahamas for you American folks). But the fearless senior management at Neighborhood Allies was persistent in their mission of getting Tamara back to Pittsburgh, even if it meant spending lots of money and having to wait many months. Because of this delay, Ben, who at the time was completing his master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh, was overwhelmed with doing the work that Tamara would have been doing had she been there! On more than one occasion Ben would casually tell his boss, "We should just hire someone else. Why are we waiting on her? What makes her so special?" Well. The wait was worth it. Nearly one year after their first interaction, Tamara arrived back in Pittsburgh. This time for good. During their first day together on the job, they got lunch at a local Thai restaurant. Tamara ate a lot, and Ben talked her ear off. They have been inseparable ever since.
