Where A Bus Can Take You In Life - How It All Started

January 2021 - On A Bus, Costa Rica

"Want to come stargazing?" While waiting at the bus terminal in San Jose, Costa Rica, Elke spotted a 'Costa Rican cutie' with a cool backpack. She struck up a conversation with Ben, who turned out to be 200% American. They spent the bus ride chatting. Elke realized she had forgotten to book her hostel, and Ben kindly suggested she book a bed in the same hotel he was staying at. Together with other solo travelers, they formed a lively group at the hostel and decided to explore the country together. When it was time for Elke to head home, saying goodbye was tough. Ben thought he might never see her again, even though they talked about visiting each other. But Elke had a hunch! Those 7.5 weeks of traveling together forged a strong connection between Ben and Elke, with just one minor "problem" – the distance.

No Ocean Too Wide

Spring, 2021

Ben and Elke decided to officially date despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, with frequent flights to see each other about every month. Their goal was to get Elke to Seattle, but obtaining a work visa proved difficult. However, in March they received an email offering Elke an internship in Seattle within 6-8 weeks. On May 18th 2023, Elke moved to Seattle, ending their long-distance phase. They had already decided to get married by that time, but wanted Elke to settle in Seattle on her own with her own visa before tying the knot.

The Engagement

Tolmie Peak - September 23rd

On September 23rd, the day after Ben's birthday, the two went on a seemingly ordinary birthday hike with one of his brothers and two of his best friends. Aware of Elke's love for Mount Rainier, Ben chose Tolmie Peak for its stunning view. Unbeknownst to Elke, this was no ordinary hike; it was an engagement hike. Ben made her work for the moment, creating a beautiful memory on a chilly day. As a fun note, Elke's cold-induced swollen fingers added a unique twist to her first look of the ring on her finger.

A Word of Gratitude

We would like to express thankfulness and gratitude, primarily towards our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, for everything he has done in our lives individually and In bringing us together. We are convinced that He is working in us and though us and has led us to this place of becoming a Oneness. We also wanted to thank everyone who believed in us and supported us along the way. We are so thankful for everyone who has been part of our story and we can't wait to celebrate with you.

For all the days along the way
