Our Story

A long time ago he proposed and I wasn’t ready because work at the time was more important than marriage. A few years ago I proposed and he wasn’t ready. This was obviously a payback moment. Aug. 2018 Joel an addition to our family. Yes! He is the adorable kid who is full of energy like squaw dance coffee running around. One causal day, no proposal, he simply said “Hey Sweetheart, maybe when you come back from New Mexico, we’ll get married.” My face probably said “What!” and my navajo glare turned to a cheesy commodity smile. My drive to Gallup was planning a wedding in my head, every exit ramp was a new idea to how many butchered sheep i would have. The How, When, Where,Should I,No... Yes... was in my mind all weekend. To the courthouse (yes, i know. I didn’t tell anyone except my parents, my best friend Sonja and my cousin Shanie) the following Monday and “Bam” we signed the piece of paper that will grant me a new last name but I still wanted to celebrate our marriage with you all. Which is why we are having a Navajo Traditional Wedding as my parents have done 35 years ago or was it 38 years ago. My point is that I want to share this ceremony with my family and in laws in my late grandparents hogan which holds so many memories and so many purposes we use it for. From Kinaalda after kindaaldas from myself to my cousins and nieces. I want to show my boys and everyone we can live in two worlds and be just as strong as our grandparent and ancestors. For my Hastiin & in-laws to experience this wedding as Navajos have done In the past. Join us and share with us a simple ceremony with love, laughter, appreciation, family, culture and purpose of becoming a family and unity. This wedding is short, sweet and fast. So I made arrangements for everyone to enjoy the entertainment, songs, teachings, jokes, navajo langauage, and food & cake with our marriage. Ahé’hee (thank you)

For all the days along the way
