Things To Do

Talie and Riley have loved living in San Francisco and hope you enjoy your time in the city. We have put together a list of some of our favorite things to do in San Francisco, around the Bay Area, and in California.
Presidio of San Francisco

Presidio of San Francisco

San Francisco, CA

The Presidio of San Francisco is a former military post that became a national park in 1994. Our ceremony will take place on the northern edge of the park, but there is plenty more to explore while you’re in the area. Lands End – A short coastal hike with sweeping views of the Golden Gate Bridge. One of the most iconic views in the city and highly recommended if you have time. Crissy Field – A beautiful waterfront park along the bay, perfect for a walk with incredible views of the bridge. Palace of Fine Arts – Located on the edge of the Presidio, this historic landmark features stunning architecture, a lagoon, and beautiful gardens.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park

San Francisco, CA

Golden Gate Park is a massive park that spans from the middle of the peninsula to Ocean Beach. It is larger than Central Park and is the best place for recreation. Talie and I love biking through the park and also walking our dog, Maggie, here. Explore the Trails: - GGP is home to many trails and paved paths great for enjoying the scenery. - The park has over 10 ponds, even ones dedicated for fly casting and model yachting. Gardens: - GGP has a number of natural and curated gardens including the Conservatory of Flowers, the SF Botanical Garden, and the Japanese Tea Garden. Visit Museums: - Explore the aquarium, rainforest dome, and planetarium at the California Academy of Sciences. - Visit the de Young Museum and go up the observation tower for free panoramic views of the city. (One of the best views of the city!) Unique Attractions: - Visit the Buffalo Paddock, home to a herd of American bison since the 1890s. - See the historic Dutch Windmill near the western end of the park.

Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks

San Francisco, CA

Come here for a great view of the city.

The Painted Ladies

The Painted Ladies

San Francisco, CA 94117

Head to Alamo Square Park to see the Painted Ladies—a row of brightly painted Victorian homes that are one of the most recognizable sights in San Francisco.

Lombard Street

Lombard Street

1099 Lombard Street, San Francisco, CA

Known as the "crookedest street in America," Lombard Street features eight sharp hairpin turns that navigate a steep 27% incline. Stop by to see this famously quirky and fun part of the city.

Marin County

Marin County

Sausalito, CA

Marin County is just across the bay to the north. It offers a number of quaint towns with shopping, dining, and scenic views, as well as an expansive network of hiking and biking trails. Many cities are accessible by ferry, which departs from the Embarcadero in San Francisco. Sausalito & Tiburon – The closest cities accessible by ferry, known for waterfront dining, shopping, and charming streets with beautiful bay views. Mill Valley – A short drive inland, this town is nestled among the Redwoods. Be sure to check out the beautiful public library if you have time! Muir Woods – A must-visit for towering Redwood trees. Note that parking reservations are required, so plan ahead. Marin Headlands – Offers green hills, historic military sites, and some of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Great for hiking, photography, and spotting wildlife. Mount Tamalpais – Trails here range from easy walks to strenuous climbs, rewarding visitors with sweeping panoramas of the Bay Area.

Monterey

Monterey

Monterey, CA

See what California beach towns are all about with a ~2 hour drive from San Francisco. Monterrey has a world renowned aquarium that is highly recommended. Try Alta Bakery and Cafe while you are there -- One of our favorite spots!

Lake Tahoe

Talie and Riley's Happy Place! You have to see it to enjoy it's beauty to the fullest. Situated on the California-Nevada border, Lake Tahoe is one of the deepest lakes in the United States. In the summertime, hiking, water activities, and relaxation are all on the agenda. There are two mains hubs, South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. These are the largest cities with the most accommodations and dining. The western shore of the lake also has a number of smaller cities. Let Talie or Riley know if you would like recommendations!

Yosemite National Park

CA

World renowned and worth the drive from the Bay Area. Let the Bride and Groom know if you need any suggestions.

Mendocino

Mendocino, CA 95460

Known for it's rugged coastline and New England style architecture, Mendocenio is a charming town ~3.5 hours north of San Francisco. For those wanting to get away from the city and enjoy the crisp air of the California coast, this is your spot. Talie and Riley recommend renting an outrigger canoe on the mouth of the Big River. Note: Mendocino is an extremely small town with limited dining and accommodations. For those looking for activities it is probably best to look elsewhere.

Napa Valley

CA

A trip to California wouldn't be complete without wine tasting. Napa Valley (Napa, Yountville, Calistoga, St. Helena) is the most famous area for tasting in California. The weather is warm and the overall experience is first class. Also consider some other areas for more affordable and less crowded tastings: - Sonoma - Livermore (Note: it is typically quite hot here in the summer.)
