Maid of Honor
Brittany kept Tajah sane through all the years of dress up, sleepovers, pool parties, family dinners, band rehearsals, babysitting, and their crazy, big, loving family. Started off life with an awesome big brother, but God knew I needed an amazing big sister too :)
Best Man
Since they were wee ones, Kris has been Kevin’s go-to confidante: countless hours spent walking together, savoring meals at hidden restaurant gems, traveling the world, and kvetching about their dad. Kris is brilliant and kind, the best brother Kevin could have ever asked for – their beloved mom would have been so proud.
Bridesmaid
Jasmin spent years stealing Tajah's clothes and disregarding boundaries about staying out of her room, but she also always kept her laughing with dad jokes around the dinner table and dancing her heart out. While I never wants to go to a youth gymnastics meet again, I wouldn't change a thing about my crazy little sister.
Groomswoman
Emily is 5 foot nothing but still scares the heck out of her cousin Kevin: rambunctious, plucky, crass, and a bunch of other words that Emily doesn't know. But "Emal and Wente" have always been two peas in a pod – canoe trips, countless giggles, and precious family time – and Kevin adores his primera prima.
Bridesmaid
It's unclear the exact age when Tajah and Carrissa met, but they both recall in detail the exact moment they became best friends. From jello fights to church camping trips, Tajah and Carrissa have seen each other through it all. 25 years later and you continue to be the best friend I could ask for.
Groomsman
Jamie and Kevin have been best buds since they were five years old, and are incredibly grateful that social media did not exist for most of their period as juveniles. Countless inside jokes, tears of laughter, and adventures in occasional truancy. But also, KJ have always been there for each other, especially when life hurt. Jamie is family.
Bridesmaid
A car ride home from track practice quickly transformed into a lifelong friendship for Tajah and Ashley. They were inseparable throughout high school ad when they reunited after college as roommates in LA, they took the town by storm. No one could understand my formative years like you and I am so grateful we get to keep growing through all of life's eras together.
Groomsman
Lance and Kevin have been close friends since kindergarten – it seems that most of Kevin's friends were made by age 5. Driveway hoops, front lawn football scrimmages, wrestling moves gone wrong, and way too much time together in Lance's mom's 1990s periwinkle Windstar. Lance is hilarious, forever reliable, and one of the most genuine humans Kevin knows.
Bridesmaid
Tajah and Dinali bonded over science in AP Bio and continue to nerd out about science every time they get together. They've visited each other in every city they've lived in from Southern California to the East Coast until they finally ended their long distance friendship by both moving to the Bay. I am excited for a lifetime of 5 hour conversations that feel like 5 minutes, wine, pups, and board games.
Groomsman
Whenever it's time to start dreaming again, Kevin goes to Erhardt: from deep philosophical chats under the stars as sociology grad students at Cambridge, to co-founding an education nonprofit together, to imagining their ideal future partners – and then Kevin introducing Erhardt to his wife. Erhardt is on the opposite coast as Kevin, but always close to his heart.
Bridesmaid
Tajah and Lauren managed to ignore each other for 4 years at Stanford, but greeted each other on the first day of med school with "Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?". A walk home after class started a conversation that never ended and they continue to challenge each other to grow in every phone call. Thank you for being able to read me like a book, but still not telling all my secrets.
Groomsman
Ngozi is far more stylish than Kevin, but he never rarely holds it against Kevin ("Do you like my hip NYC hat?" "Please take that off, you look like you're going on a Harlem safari"). They first met in 2012 at StartingBloc, and talked for 3 hours straight – 11 years and countless conversations later, Ngozi continues to be one of Kevin's faves.
Bridesmaid
Tajah and Marcela joke that they have been following each other around since they met. From med school, to Master's programs, to residency and hundreds of road trips, photos, and itineraries in between, they have been inseparable. Thank you for letting me be attached at your hip so I can soak in as much wisdom from you as possible.
Groomsman
Scott has encouraged Kevin in most of his addictions: spending too many hours doing trivia in Learned League (warning: Google it at your own risk), helping our unhoused neighbors through Miracle Messages, and generally trying to be a better partner and person. Kevin may talk with Scott on the phone more than anyone besides Tajáh – and he couldn’t be more grateful.
Bridesmaid
Laila is the newest to the crew, but Tajah knew they would be best friends from early on in their Master's days. Their friendship was only solidified when Tajah briefly lived with Laila's family, and has continued to grow since Laila made the best choice by staying at UCSF. Thank you for letting me consult you for all of my patients inside the hospital, and for all of life's decisions outside the hospital.
Groomsman
It’s a good thing that Tajáh is not the jealous type. After each of their hours-long conversations – ranging from a shared faith and shared values to navigating family, work, and life together – Kevin probably spends an equal amount of time recapping everything with zeal. “The Kevins” share a special bond... even if one of them is a slightly more talented musician.
