Nick and Gabi had been friends throughout college. During their years at TCNJ Gabi frequented Nick's fraternity house and the two had even gone to a formal together sophomore year. While they had been friends for years Nick did not make his move until after graduation in a crowded bar with the help of a meddling friend and some liquid courage. That night Gabi and her friend Emily were celebrating their 22nd birthday in a Philadelphia Bar. Gabi's close friend Christina (affectionately known as Fabs), who is known for meddling, decided she would have some fun. Fabs approached Nick and told him that he should make a move on Gabi. Nick was surprised by this, and not convinced it was a good idea. So he asked another mutual friend, Brendan, for his opinion and after two confirmations, Nick made up his mind, he would make a move. Nick and Gabi had gone dancing countless times before this, so that night when Nick asked Gabi to dance she didn't think twice about it. But that night Nick went in for a kiss and Gabi.... ducked and spun her way out of dancing with Nick for the rest of the night. However, the story doesn't end there. The next day Nick texted Gabi and like the gentleman that he is, apologized for trying to kiss her. The two made plans to go out for brunch a few weeks later and that is how it all began.

Nothing ever goes as planned and Gabi and Nick's engagement is no exception. It started when Nick tried to set up a brunch reservation at one of their favorite restaurants, only to find out three days before the proposal that the restaurant would be closed that day. Scrambling Nick made another reservation in Princeton. However, the problems don't stop there. The week leading up to their brunch plans Gabi was battling a cold. All week long Gabi thought about their brunch plans on Saturday, hoping that they would be canceled. But Saturday morning came and the brunch plans were still in place. So Gabi, who is still battling a cold, got dressed and the two went to brunch at Mediterra. When the couple sat down they quickly realized there were no brunch options on the menu, so Gabi tries to find another restaurant to go to. Nick is now sweating in his seat because he knows that after brunch he plans to walk through the rose gardens directly behind Mediterra. Gabi is clueless as she googles other restaurant options. After some convincing from Nick that there are no other options near by the two stay at Mediterra and order salads for brunch. Uncharacteristically Nick did not finish his salad which Gabi thought was weird. Earlier Nick mentioned taking a walk near the rose gardens after brunch, so the two took a stroll and it was there that Nick got down on one knee and asked Gabi to marry him. Later when they were back in the car Nick told Gabi they would swing by his house to tell his parents the news and invite them and some friends over to her house. Gabi, sitting in the passenger seat is upset by this, since her only real request was to have a party immediately after their engagement. But Nick did not disappoint and when the couple pulled up to Nick's house, their closest friends and family were waiting in the driveway to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
