We met at a mutual family friend's Labor Day Party. Joey struck up a conversation with Tabitha which eventually led to many long phone call conversations and eventually a first date...you know, the old school way of dating...then more dating...after many years, we're finally getting hitched!
Joey's not much of a planner so it was obvious that the proposal was coming when he took me to Jamestown for a couple of days after about a year of talking about marriage. Our lives are busy to say the least so it’s always difficult to make time to get away. We had a wonderful time while we were there, and the anticipation was killing me. I mean the trip was perfect apart from no proposal. We left in the morning, both in sweatpants and myself quite dumbfounded. As I was unloading the vehicle with bags in hand, Joey decides to get down on one knee in front of my garage (not quite the wardrobe or location I had envisioned). I made him get up...processed the situation and realized I had waited for this man to propose to me for many years and he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I then told him he could get back down, which threw him for a loop, but the words will you marry me stumbled out. I said yes, and looking back I would take our real-life proposal every time. Apparently, he wanted to surprise me with the proposal, so he decided he wanted to wait until we got home. Even more amusing, apparently, he reenacted his parent’s proposal because they too got engaged in front of his mom's garage. It must be a Lima thing. ;)
