Elizabeth and Kyle met as juniors in high school and were lucky enough to have the same lunch period. At the time, Elizabeth ate lunch every day with her friend Mike. It was always just the two of them until one day when Mike said, “We have to save Kyle.” Kyle’s friends all had different lunch periods, so he ended up sitting with a group of guys who weren’t really his crowd. Mike decided Kyle needed to join their table. Elizabeth wasn't exactly thrilled with the idea and pushed back, but Mike invited him anyway. Soon enough, the three of them were eating lunch together every day. Elizabeth liked having Kyle around, but she still wasn’t going out of her way to spend time with him. In fact, whenever Mike was absent, she would ditch Kyle and sit with some of the other girls in the lunch period instead. Then came a research paper that had their English class spending each day in the library instead of the classroom. Mike was out of school for two weeks, and Elizabeth and Kyle ended up spending a lot of time together at the same table, supposedly working on their assignments. Even though one of Elizabeth’s best friends was in the class, she chose to sit with Kyle. They talked constantly, got very little work done, and both ended up pretty behind on their projects. Somewhere in all those conversations, a real friendship started to form. After that, Elizabeth stopped ditching Kyle at lunch when Mike wasn’t around. What started as Mike trying to “save Kyle” turned into Elizabeth and Kyle genuinely enjoying each other’s company, and the rest is history.
