We love Backbone! Whether it is hiking, renting a boat from the boat house, playing in the water at the beach or scouting out the small bat colony that lives in the tower, there is a lot of exploring to be done!
Devonian Fossil Gorge
This is a fun little spot to stop at to look at some pretty neat fossils!
National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium
If you're looking for something historical and educational, the National Mississippi River Museum is a fun place to check out. They have different sections that go from fresh water to the ocean, and cover historic boat making, Native American culture and artifacts, and ocean preservation.
Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens
The Arboretum is a little bit of a drive, but well worth it! It is beautiful, and it is also free to attend! We especially love the Japanese garden.
The Iowa Children's Museum
Although we haven't been here, friends who have been and who worked there strongly recommend it. We would love a chance to visit with you!
