Back in 1978, Sarah played basketball, volleyball and track for Salida High School. Syrilyn (ST) played basketball, volleyball and track for Manitou Springs High School. They butted heads so frequently that they started hanging out after games and meets, and eventually several players on both teams got together to go camping and hang out in each others' 'hoods. But then high school ended and they both went their separate ways.
Life got in the way and both friends lost contact with each other until 2011, when Syrilyn and her then partner considered retiring to Salida, so she contacted Sarah to see how her life had unfolded. Syrilyn was living in Alaska by this time, and Sarah was in Fort Collins. A few messages were exchanged over the next decade, but when Sarah's facebook account got hacked, Syrilyn contacted Sarah to find out why she (actually, the fake "Sarah") was being so weird. After discovering the hack, they both agreed to meet up in person when Syrilyn was next in Colorado, which was December of 2021. When they finally met, it was as if 1978 was yesterday, and the years just melted away. A freak ice/snowstorm stranded Syrilyn in Colorado for another week, so they met up again, and by this time, both knew that something big was happening. Many texts became phone calls lasting hours, and when Syrilyn broke her hip last spring and Sarah came to her rescue, the relationship was cemented. After discovering the lure of the wilderness and the people of Alaska, Sarah became enamored of the 49th state, and decided to move North, along with her son, Matthew. All three now live in Fairbanks, Alaska, but because they wanted to have as many of their family and friends as possible attend this important event, they chose to be wed in the beautiful State of Colorado.
