FAQs

Question

IS GUATEMALA SAFE?

Answer

We want to reassure our guest that Guatemala IS safe! We would never ask our family and friends to travel somewhere that is unsafe. We know you will love Guatemala as much as we do!

Question

WHERE DO I FLY INTO?

Answer

Guatemala City Airport (La Aurora International Airport). Antigua is a city about 1.5 - 2.5 hrs away from the city, depending on traffic. Depending on when your plane lands, you can spend the night in Guatemala City, or our travel agent, Marcia, can help you set up transportation to your hotel in Antigua.

Question

HOW LONG SHOULD I STAY?

Answer

There are a lot of fun locations to visit in Guatemala so It really depends on how long you can get away for! I suggest landing in Guatemala on Friday and making your way to Antigua either Friday or early Saturday to partake in wedding festivities. Check out our "Things To Do" tab to see places to explore in Antigua, or other nearby sites such as Lake Atitlan, Tikal, and/or Puertos San Jose.

Question

HOW DO I GET TO ANTIGUA?

Answer

The safest and most convenient way to travel to Antigua is through shuttle transportation. For assistance in securing your transportation, please contact our travel agent, Marcia (travel@sparksevents.com.gt). If you are staying the night in Guatemala City, she can also help you book a hotel. Within the city, Uber is safe and reliable to use.

Question

WHAT IS THE CURRENCY?

Answer

In Guatemala, the currency used is called Quetzal (Q). The currency may vary by the time of your visit, but the rate of exchange currently is $1 = $7.82 Q. We recommend you exchange $100 USD for the trip for souvenirs, entrance to museums & excursions and tips. We recommend that you exchange your dollars in Banks in Antigua Guatemala, or in the Currency-Exchange office at the airport. Credit cards are accepted at restaurants and hotels.

Question

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE IN MARCH?

Answer

March is a great month, with temperatures between 59°F and 75°F. It tends to cool down at night so we suggest you pack a light jacket. Rainy season is over in March, so expect great weather!

Question

IS THERE A DRESS CODE FOR THE WEDDING?

Answer

We kindly ask that you wear Black-tie Optional for the wedding. That means men in a tuxedo, or dark colored suit & women in mid-length or floor length dresses. The vibe we are going for is COLORFUL, FUN, and FORMAL. Think, James Bond x Tropical Jungle 🥂😎🌺🌴✨ For more inspo, check out our Pinterest Board: https://www.pinterest.com/atsavessylvia/sylvia-nathans-guatemala-wedding-guest-attire/

Question

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I PACK?

Answer

CLOTHING: Wedding event attire, for more info check out the "Schedule" section of the site. Comfortable walking shoes are a MUST because Antigua's cobblestone streets are magical but challenging to walk on (pointed heels and flip flops are a bad idea for strolling around the city). Lightweight/breathable clothing and layers for the daytime. Swimwear if your hotel has a pool or if you visit nearby hot springs or Lake Atitlan. Sun hat & glasses are great for sun protection. Activewear if you plan on hiking or exploring the volcanoes ELECTRICITY & TECH: You don't need a converter if you're coming from the US, but you SHOULD bring a travel adapter if you need to use 3-pronged outlets. ESSENTIALS: Passport & Visa for travel Medications & Toiletries, although there are shops and pharmacies all through Antigua

Question

ARE KIDS WELCOME?

Answer

Please kindly note that, in order to maintain a more formal and adult-focused atmosphere, we kindly request that the celebration be an adult-only event.

Question

CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

Answer

Please DO NOT DRINK TAP WATER. You should avoid drinking any water that isn't bottled. You should also avoid ordering drinks with ice as once the ice melts, it will mix with your drink and can lead to an upset stomach. I would also recommend avoiding raw fruits that don't have peels and vegetables.

Question

WHAT IF I GET SICK?

Answer

Vitalmed is an urgent care in Antigua, that is open 24/7 and that has English speaking doctors.
