Hello !

We met at work on a film set, all thanks to Ciiku Big (Sylvia's cousin) and Bobb (a family friend) who linked Sylvia up with the job in May 2018. After two months of knowing each other, we spent every possible minute together, both during and after work. Within 6 months we met each other's friends, did the whole meet-the-mom thing, and we survived our first Christmas as a duo. We also adopted the world's meanest and laziest cat who unfortunately ran away. She was such a joy. Fast forward to 6 years, and we've been on countless adventures together, switched careers, launched businesses, moved houses, fought off COVID together, and indulged in amazing art. But beyond all that, we've evolved so much as individuals. Experiencing life together has been such a worthwhile journey.

The plan was to have a laid-back new year with our family. Little did I know there was a whole top-secret mission underway. Kenji, with the help of both our mothers, had been planning a surprise proposal for me. I probably should have caught on when my not-so-into-makeup mother-in-law suggested I glam up for a family ‘lunch’. Or when Kenji tagged along with me to the salon while I got my hair done. His sudden interest in sitting with me while I got my hair done was suspicious but I didn't read so much into it. Meanwhile, my mom was avoiding me, knowing she couldn't keep a secret to save her life. It was such a weird day. When we got to the beach I was so blown away by the surprise that I couldn't even hear Kenji's romantic speech. After saying yes, our moms came out from their hiding spots super happy. They totally got me! It was a magical day surrounded by the people I love the most.
