How we met

2013-2015

In the Spring of 2013, both, Karl & Sylvia, happened to begin new jobs at a magical place called PPD located in Austin, Texas. Karl moving from Maryland where he grew up, was excited to begin a new life in a new city. Sylvia grew up just 40 minutes south of Austin, but was trying to figure out her life as she finished up her bachelor's degree at Texas State University. Both were navigating a new life in Austin, trying to make new friends, meet new people, & explore new experiences. Fortunately, PPD was full of young, active people all trying to do the same thing! A group of colleagues started a soccer team within the company - Sylvia's favorite sport! Sylvia joined the team in which Karl was already a part of...but they never even spoke. After a couple months, Sylvia tore her ACL playing soccer in a different league, and was out of the game for at least six months... Six months later, Sylvia was all healed up! She started joining that same group to play volleyball every Thursday. Turns out, Karl played volleyball too! Both being quiet in nature, they still never even spoke. THEN ONE DAY Karl asked Sylvia, "Are you going to ACL this year?" We don't know what Sylvia said, but they haven't stopped talking since! It may not have been love at first sight, but it's a love that is still growing to this day. Five years later, here we are! Karl & Sylvia are getting married!!!

The Proposal

January 27, 2018

It was just your average Saturday. Karl and Sylvia had plans to attend a birthday celebration on Rainey St. Karl mentioned to Sylvia that their friends, Anthony & Lahra (a photographer), were going to the boardwalk to take some pictures and asked us to join. Sylvia was hesitant, she really just wanted to get drunk on Rainey St., so she said, "we'll see!" She was feeling extra lazy that day and didn't even feel like showering before they went out. She asked Karl if he thought she should shower or just go as is. He said it was up to her. She didn't shower. Later on that afternoon, they were having a blast on Rainey St., when Karl said, "hey, let's go meet up with Anthony & Lahra on the boardwalk." Pouty Sylvia bargained with Karl and said, "only if we get eggrolls first." They walked over to the food trucks & Sylvia requested a full order of 8 eggrolls all to herself. She also made her way to get some elote from another food truck. After eating all 8 eggrolls and the elote, Sylvia agreed to go to the boardwalk. Michael, Katie, & Matt were also tagging along. Once they arrived at the boardwalk, Lahra started snapping pics of people - Michael & Katie, Matt & Anthony. Karl suggested to Sylvia that they should take a pic. Sylvia was hesitant - she said, "I didn't even shower! My hair sucks." Karl pleaded with her to take a picture together & Sylvia finally agreed. As they began posing for the picture, Karl got down on one knee. Sylvia began to say, "get up, we're taking a picture!", when she realized what was happening. In that moment, she realized what had been happening all day! She immediately said, "yes!" She was completely surprised & felt terrible for making it so difficult to get her to the boardwalk, but couldn't have been happier that they were now engaged!
