Valerie Watkins and Sylvester Jones both attended Howard University. On a campus with more than 10,000 students, all hailing from different parts of the country – Valerie from Ohio, and Sylvester from New York - their paths never crossed on campus. It wasn’t until 2014, 27 years after college, they both attended a Homecoming event and their serendipitous love affair began. Unbeknownst to them, Valerie and Sylvester had mutual friends for over 30 years. Although they lived 7 hours apart, they invested the time and the attention to making their budding relationship work. For the next 4 years, Sylvester jumped in Black Ruby and piled on 75,000 miles, up and down the highway to see Valerie. In June of 2019, Sylvester made the big move from his familiar streets of New York to the little Big City, Cleveland, Ohio. Known by their friends and family as the “traveling couple”, Valerie and Sylvester took their passion for adventure and began a life full of first trips, road trips, and continuous laughter. Their first trip was in December 2015 to Las Vegas and the fun just hasn’t stopped since. They’ve traveled to Spain, Italy, Greece, Cuba and Dominican Republic, to name a few. Their destination wedding to St. Lucia is only fitting for these two, who believe in exploring the world, meeting new people, and delving into all that life has to offer. This is their story filled with love, laughter and adventures.
On bended knee with ring in hand Sylvester: Will you marry me? Valerie: Really, Really Sylvester! Sylvester: Is that a Yes? Valerie: YES!
