How We Met

Middle School, July 25th, 2014

We met one another when we both went to a friend's birthday celebration. We were aware of who each other were, but never had the opportunity to speak and get to know each other a little until then. At the time, Sydnie was being home schooled, leaving the phone to be our only means of communication. When Sydnie returned to public school for 9th grade, we started to make more conversation together. Eventually this became an invitation to the homecoming dance - which was a lot of fun! After a while, Sean asked Sydnie if she wanted to start dating; however, Sydnie was uninterested at the time. This didn't stop us from remaining in contact, though. A little bit later, Sean ended up moving to Tennessee during the Junior year. For a while we lost communication until Sydnie's brother kept receiving requests from Sean to talk her into getting social media. From there, conversation started up again - to which quickly became weekly chats, to daily chats. A couple years passed and then came a very fortunate drive home. As Sydnie was being driven home from school that day, she came to admit it - "Mom, I think I'm in love." After graduation, Sean asked her again, and this time it was a success. We were officially a couple.

Engagement

May 22, 2023

We had discussed it a few times before about possibly proposing, but could never decide on when. At first, we thought to try waiting for one year and see where we were at. Afterwards, we waited another year - during which Sean was trying to figure out a potential ring to give (he decided on his grandmother's ring). Eventually Sean asked Sydnie out on a date - a simple date to just go out, have some lunch, then maybe hang out for a bit. After ordering take out, we stopped at a local park just a few blocks down the street to eat our food. As soon as we had finished, Sydnie noticed Sean take something out of his pocket. He asked if she was done, and happily she nodded. With a big smile on her face, she had a pretty good guess what was about to happen. A few seconds later and Sean reveals a small box. He opens it, and there's a pretty diamond ring. A moment of silence hung between us, as the smile on Sydnie's face just grew more and more. She knew what he was about to say, but was just waiting for it to happen. Then it finally came, "Well.. Will you marry me?" It was a great rest of the day from there - going bowling with a friend to celebrate.
