Sydney and Hayden crossed paths many times before they ever truly connected. It wasn’t until freshman-year Spanish, circa 2015, that the two went from acquaintances to friends. The true matchmaker turned out to be Mrs. Rangel, who unknowingly changed everything when she switched the seating chart one day—placing Sydney and Hayden right next to each other in 5th period. From that class, a tight-knit group of friends formed. After-school hangouts quickly became the norm, filled with mini-golf outings and late-night Whataburger runs after football games. Group hangouts soon turned into movie dates, Andy’s Frozen Custard runs, and plenty of awkward hand-holding. The most romantic part of it all? The parent drop-offs—after all, Sydney and Hayden were only 15. Hayden made his first big move by asking Sydney to sophomore Homecoming at Flying Tee (with a little help from friends, of course). Not long after, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend at the movies—after watching the incredibly romantic Deepwater Horizon. From that moment on, Sydney and Hayden became the couple in their friend group, attending formals and dances together throughout high school. Senior year brought one of their most memorable moments. Both were selected for Homecoming Court, and during the homecoming pep rally, Hayden surprised Sydney by asking her to Homecoming in front of the entire school, right in the middle of their court entrance. As graduation approached and high school came to a close, they both made the decision to attend Oklahoma State University for the next four years. At Oklahoma State, Sydney and Hayden kept their role as the couple in the friend group—just with a new group this time. When COVID hit during their freshman and sophomore years, they played a key role in bringing their separate friend groups together, creating one close-knit circle that lasted throughout college and beyond. To this day, these friends remain some of Sydney and Hayden’s favorite people. Looking back, they often say college was the best four years of their lives—not only because their relationship grew, but because their friendships did too. The summer before their senior year, both Sydney and Hayden interned at Textron Aviation in Wichita, Kansas. When summer ended, they were each offered full-time roles after graduation. Sydney accepted a two-year rotational program beginning in Wichita and later moving to Providence, Rhode Island as an Environmental Engineer while Hayden accepted a full-time Design Engineering role in Wichita. Their first year in Wichita was an absolute blast—filled with incredible people they met through Sydney’s Leadership Development Program. That year was often described as “an extra year of college, just with adult money,” and the friendships formed during that time became lifelong bonds. As year one came to a close, Sydney moved to Providence, Rhode Island, in July of 2024 to complete the second year of her rotational program. While the long—very long—distance was challenging, it also gave them the opportunity to explore the East Coast together, including trips to Maine, Newport, New York City, Boston, and beyond. After a year of countless flights and many airline points, Sydney returned to Wichita to accept a full-time EHS Engineering role with Textron Aviation. After settling back into life in Wichita, Hayden popped the question on December 12th, surrounded by Christmas lights at Tulsa's Guthrie Green. He completely surprised Sydney, and they celebrated the joyful moment with family over the holidays. While their story is still being written, Sydney and Hayden are deeply grateful for the many wonderful people who have poured into their relationship over the years and helped it grow. Fourteen-year-old Sydney and Hayden had no idea what the future held—but they feel incredibly blessed that this is the story being written for them.
