Let’s take it back to January 2021… Tyler was a freshman at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, studying Ag Business and Agronomy. Life at that time was exactly what you’d expect: living it up with the boys, hopping between classes on Zoom, going to the 'ragers', and doing just enough homework. Of course, all of this is being done with his roommate and best college buddy, Trevor. Sydney, a sophomore (also at UW-Platteville!), was studying Agricultural Education. Her days were a perfect mix of working at Maurices, spending afternoons working at a local daycare, and living her best life: shopping with her discount and hanging out with kids. And of course… grabbing a Venti Iced Coffee from Starbucks before logging into Zoom at the student center. (Some habits truly never change.) On the first day of a new semester, Sydney logged into class and immediately noticed something unusual: two boys with their cameras on, sitting in the same room, clearly more focused on messing around than listening to the lecture. The professor, who also happened to be the Ag Ed program director (and someone Sydney knew well), announced that we’d need to choose our Zoom lab partners by the end of the week. Naturally, Tyler and Trevor wanted to partner together. Sydney didn’t have a preference… except she did. During an Ag Ed Society meeting, she quietly told the professor, “Just please don’t put me with those two guys who were messing around. I know nothing about pole barns, and they don’t look like they’ll pay much attention.” So of course… the next week, the professor said, “Sorry, Sydney… I paired you with Tyler and Trevor. They wanted each other, and you didn’t care. You’ll be able to handle it.” And that is how this story officially began. Fast forward to March. Tyler invited Sydney to a campus event at the student center after talking via Snapchat and school email for some time. Sydney brought her girlies along (just in case), and they just so happened to run into Tyler and all of his buddies. Without realizing it, they had their very first “unofficial” hangout together. As the school year closed out, and knowing they’d be heading home for the summer, six hours apart, Tyler asked Sydney on a final date. They went to the local Mexican restaurant, took a little hike, and ended the night with Tyler asking Sydney to be his girlfriend. Sydney, with her signature smirk, replied, “I’ll have to think about it,” and headed home for the summer. MAYBE ten minutes later, Tyler called her and said, “No, really…” And that’s when Sydney realized he wasn’t joking. On May 20th, 2021, they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.
