They met at Menards where they both worked part-time. Sydney was customer service and Nicolas was Building Materials. Every night they closed together, for some reason Sydney always had "returns" for Nicolas's department. This sparked conversation every night and they grew a bond. The more they talked the more they liked the conversations they had. Well, Sydney got tired of waiting for Nicolas to ask for her number, so she boldly asked for it first. That same night Nicolas got asked to work overnight which turned into an 18-hour shift. Since he was there so long, and they only started talking outside of work he asked Sydney if she could bring him some food in the middle of the night as they were up late talking about the butterflies in their stomachs. With the kind heart of Sydney, she agreed and drove back out to work to help him out. At 3:00 in the morning, this is when the magic began, and they both knew there could be something here. The willingness of Sydney to drive in the middle of the night for some guy she met at a place she worked because of her kind heart sparked the everlasting love these two share.

The special place, Celery Flats, in the City of Kalamazoo is where they would spend countless nights at. This park is where the long walks, the happy conversations, and the love started. Throughout the years they would always visit this place at least a few times a year to reminisce on the times that started their relationship. Before they were to go on vacation for a week together, the couple had to make a trip to the parent's house to get supplies for the trip. This is where Nicolas got the great idea to make a pit stop at the park since it was right down the road. Little did Sydney know that they were going to add one more memory to the place that already holds so many memories for them. As they were sitting by the creek in the park where many of the conversations took place, he dropped to one knee, and instantly Sydney broke into tears and cried "YES!".
