I had just gotten rejected from nursing school, and Alyssa decided we had to go out and have some fun. So she dragged me to a Sigma Chi party. I didn’t know many people, but I ended up feeling bad for this guy named Luis, who was standing alone in the kitchen. I started chatting with him (mostly venting about nursing school). Later, in the bathroom, I told one of my sorority sisters I'd introduce her to Luis because I thought they would be SO CUTE together. I mean, he was SO SWEET, and SO easy to talk too! Well, Luis didn’t love that idea. Instead, he asked my roommate, Whitney, for my number, to which she said, "She has a boyfriend." Luis, without missing a beat, said, "That wasn’t the question." Anyway, Luis ended up DMing me on Instagram to ask me out. I said no :) because, you know, I had a boyfriend. Next thing I know, Luis suddenly became very studious - and started studying on my favorite floor of the library... at my favorite table. Thing is, Luis underestimated my studying capacity. He'd try for about 45 minutes then disappear and come back with two coffees. Then chips. Then candy. Then he'd start chatting with the people at the next table over. Eventually, he decided he would take me to get food across the street since "it was getting dark and places might close." I didn’t know it at the time but... that was our first date. #Don'tletyourboyfriendstopyoufromfindingyourhusband
One day, I stopped by the Sigma Chi house after the gym and walked into a pregame with a bunch of people hanging out. In the crowd, there was a redheaded girl who immediately stood out to me. I found one of her friends, asked for an introduction, and that’s how I met Syd for the first time. We talked for a bit before she shot me down—turns out she had a boyfriend. She definitely wasn’t into me. In fact, she even tried to set me up with one of her other friends! I was forced to chat with Sydney's friend, and eventually just asked her roommate for her number. Didn't get it. I didn’t see her again for a while, until I randomly ran into her at the library right before the first wave of exams that semester - which, honestly, was probably the only time you’d catch me in the library. She was sitting alone, so I went over to keep her company. After a couple of hours of intense studying (and a little procrastinating), I managed to talk her into grabbing food with me at New York Eats across campus. And that’s when I knew I had sealed the deal - sorta.
