Sydney and I met during our freshman year at Oklahoma State, but didn't get to know each other until mid sophomore year. As sophomores, Sydney and I sat next to each other in Organic Chemistry, Physics II, and Organic Chemistry II. We were in several study groups together, but my favorite was our Physics II study group- just the two of us. Studying for Physics II we learned much more about each other than anything we were being taught in class. In January of 2022, Sydney and I went on our first of many "friend-dates." At that time all we really knew is that we enjoyed each others company. That is until later that month where I am on video saying "You know what? Im really vibing with Sydney Mitchell." That is Keaton lingo for "I have a crush." Finally, February of 2022, I worked up the courage to text Sydney and ask her to be my Valentine. Within minutes, Sydney responded with a quick rejection. I gave it some time before I asked her on our first date a few weeks later. Sydney kindly replied by telling me of how good of a friend I was. Ouch. Following Sydney's second rejection, I realized I needed to go back to the drawing board. Leading up to Spring Break, I devised a plan to get Sydney to hang out with me 1 on 1 without thinking it was a date. This worked so well, in fact, she still doesn't think it was a date. Over spring break Sydney agreed to travel to Kansas City with me to go to the Big 12 Championship Basketball game. We had the most amazing time. I still remember the car ride up there and how my cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling the entire way. After the game, we got dinner and began to head back to Tulsa. At this point, it was clear to me that Sydney and I had an undeniable chemistry that not even she could reject. With an hour left in our car ride, I asked "do you think we could go on an actual date sometime?" Sydney responded by telling me how she "didn't see it long term." Ouch. After the worst, most awkward hour in the car ever, I dropped Sydney off at her house and pretty much gave up on ever scoring a date with the elusive Sydney Mitchell. Our communication eventually dissolved to nothing and I thought our story was going to end after a few months of an awkward one-sided talking phase. Then, a few weeks later, my phone rang. Sydney was calling to ask if I would be her date to the PTK dance coming up. Without checking my calendar, I said yes. I was back in the game! We had an amazing time at the dance, but my favorite part of the night was staying up until 5am getting to know each other afterwards. It was pretty obvious at this point that there were mutual feelings, for real this time. Over the next month we went on actual dates and saw each other nearly every day until I asked her to be my girlfriend exactly a month after the PTK dance. She said yes! Sydney and I officially began dating on May 1st, 2022. In our over three years of dating, Sydney and I have made countless memories together. We have bonded over our shared love for travel, Sydney's love for the outdoors, and my love for the Oklahoma City Thunder. I proposed to Sydney, on May 1st, 2025, three years to the day of when we started dating. We are very grateful and excited to be able to celebrate our marriage with our amazing friends and families in June!
