On a cool fall evening in 2023, Grant and Sydney met at a young adult Bible study hosted by their good friends, Sam and Maria. Their first interaction was brief and unassuming, filled with easy conversation about museums, coffee, and the Lord. As fate would have it, between work, classes, and performances, it would be three months before they saw each other again. They reconnected when invited to lunch with friends after church one week. The following week, Grant invited Sydney to lunch himself, an invitation she kindly declined. Still, Grant walked Sydney home from church nearly every week and they enjoyed getting to know one another better. Eventually, their schedules aligned, and they shared their first official date at Topo Gigio. After their fair share of unorthodox dates, including one with way-too-spicy chicken made by Grant, another featuring nearly 100 of Sydney’s homemade pancakes, and even a few trips to Home Depot for stage props, they made their relationship official on March 30th, 2024. Since then, they have learned so much from one another and have celebrated the life-changing presence they’ve brought into each other’s lives. On September 29th, 2025, Grant and Sydney celebrated their 18-month anniversary with dinner at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Sears Tower, followed by a walk along the riverfront. Surrounded by the breathtaking architecture of the city that brought them together, Grant asked Sydney to marry him. It was the happiest and most exciting moment of their lives, and the ice cream they enjoyed afterward was pretty great too. Very soon, Grant and Sydney will marry the best friend they’ve found in each other! They are excited to begin building a life together with the guidance and grace of God.
