In August 2016, Sydney packed her bags and headed to Arcadia University to begin her college career. Before she even had a chance to order her textbooks the boys in her dorm came knocking on her door to invite her to a party that night. An offer she couldn't refuse, Sydney headed to the Towers apartment building across from Arcadia's campus to have her very first Natty Light. Little did she know this is also where she would meet her future husband. At the party, Sydney immediately spotted a tall, handsome basketball player and had to introduce herself. She made a beeline toward Evan, they hit it off, and she left with his cell phone number and Snapchat in hand. I'd say it was a successful first day of school. After a quick three weeks of college romance, they officially began dating.
Only five days after becoming "official", Sydney dragged Evan home to Jenna's (sister/maid of honor) senior homecoming football game at Southern Lehigh High School. Jenna was on the homecoming court, so Sydney wanted to surprise her at the game. Sydney warned Evan of her chaotic family but nothing could ever prepare him for the real thing. Evan met the family and received excellent reviews. However, the true test came when Evan met Luke, Sydney's younger brother with severe autism. Luke immediately warmed up to Evan, but more importantly, Evan took to Luke right away. Sydney explained to Evan how Luke and she are a package deal. Evan graciously accepted his two for one special.
Sydney and Evan continued to date throughout college, and their relationship grew stronger with time. The two spent their college years supporting one another on the basketball court, while both sporting their matching #24 jerseys. Evan was Sydney's number one fan throughout her collegiate field hockey career, as he endured many chilly nights at the turf field cheering her on. Once Evan graduated from Arcadia in 2019, he made weekly visits back to his Alma mater to visit Sydney and Will (his best man) almost every weekend before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Throughout quarantine and their early adult lives, Sydney and Evan continued to prioritize one another. Sydney stayed busy at her new teaching job, while also reffing, coaching, and enrolling in grad school. On the other hand, Evan began a successful sales career at ADP, while balancing his relationship with Sydney on top of his busy social calendar. The two led busy lives but continued to keep one another as the top priority.
What started as a normal Saturday morning for Sydney turned into the biggest surprise she never saw coming! Sydney left that morning to go coach a basketball game, and Evan told her that he was going to visit his friend Rhett's (a groomsman) new apartment. On her drive home from the game, Sydney tried to contact Evan multiple times to discuss their plans for the evening. His phone went directly to voicemail, yet Sydney still suspected nothing. Sydney got home and walked into the kitchen all bundled up, with her purse and yeti mug in hand. To her surprise, she spotted candles lighting up the kitchen and Luke chilling all alone in his usual stool seat holding a ring box. Suddenly, Evan popped out from behind her, snatched the ring from Luke, and got down on one knee. He then proceeded with his long-winded speech: "Will you marry me?"
