Our Story

Under the New York City Lights

Sydney and Dean met on a chilly yet beautiful October night in New York City. The kind of evening when the air feels crisp and the city lights glow a little brighter. Dean had planned their first date at a small speakeasy tucked behind an alleyway, an unexpected spot that immediately set the tone. From the moment they sat down together, the rest of the world seemed to fade away. Their connection was instant and effortless. They talked for hours, shared stories, and laughed constantly, even joined by the lighthearted energy of a nearby couple who made the night even more memorable. When the evening came to an end, neither of them was ready for it to. Dean suggested continuing the night on the rooftop of his apartment, and beneath the New York skyline, the conversation flowed just as naturally as it had from the start. Before Sydney had even stepped into her Uber home, Dean had already messaged her to plan their next date at an Israeli restaurant he had been wanting to try. That second date quickly turned into a full week of spending time together every day. What stood out was not how fast everything unfolded, but how calm, intentional, and right it all felt. They continued seeing each other through the fall until mid December, when Dean returned to the Outer Banks before traveling to Israel to be with family. Distance and timing made things complicated, and although they remained on each other’s minds, life briefly pulled them in different directions. Even as communication slowed, neither truly let go of what they had found. On New Year’s Eve, Dean reached out, and everything shifted. They admitted what had quietly been true all along, that they had never stopped thinking about one another. Talking again felt easy and grounding, even as Sydney’s life was moving quickly. While navigating interviews and uncertainty, she received a job opportunity in Miami. Through it all, Dean stayed present, checking in often and making it clear that their connection still mattered. In March, with only two weeks to prepare, Sydney and her pup Milo moved to Miami. Shortly after arriving, she and Dean began talking every day again. They realized Dean had been in Miami just one week before she arrived. Missing each other by such a small margin made it clear how much they still wanted to find their way back to one another. Dean invited Sydney to visit him in the Outer Banks. What was meant to be a quick two day trip turned into nearly a week when her flights home were repeatedly canceled. What could have been frustrating became something entirely different, unexpected time together that deepened everything. During that visit, Dean welcomed Sydney into his world and the life he was building, and she found herself falling in love with both him and the quiet beauty of the Outer Banks. From there, they began flying back and forth almost every weekend. What they once thought would be difficult long distance became easy, steady, joyful, and deeply intentional. They were not questioning where things were headed. They were choosing each other again and again. As spring approached, it became clear they wanted a life rooted in the same place. With Dean’s encouragement and support, Sydney made the decision to move to the Outer Banks, where she opened her boutique, inspired in part by watching Dean pour his heart into his own small business and the life he had built with care. One of their favorite memories from that very first date still makes them smile. They exchanged photos of their dogs, Cooper and Milo, and discovered they looked like little twins. Even then, it felt like a sign of how naturally their lives would fit together. Today, Sydney and Dean live in the Outer Banks with their two pups, grateful for a love story that began on a crisp October night, unfolded with perfect timing, and grew stronger each time they found their way back to one another.
