Lincoln-Douglas Debate Square
It is here, at this site, where Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas debated the "Freeport Doctrine," which regarded the state's outlook of the legality of slavery on August 27, 1858. Later a boulder and plaque was dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. Also, stop next door at the Union Dairy to grab some amazing ice-cream.
