We met our freshman year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). On the first day of class, we had English. Caleb saw me walking into the classroom. I was a nervous wreck so I was not paying attention. He thought to himself that I was pretty. Later on in the semester, I caught him glancing at me during class. I waved and smiled at him. He waved back. After that class, he walked me back to Blazer Hall ( we had dorms in the same building). During the walk, he joked about my Alabama tote bag to try to break the ice. He said "Wearing a UA bag on UAB campus?". I replied "My NaNa bought me this bag" (I did not get the joke). We would see each other repeatedly in class and around campus. We then met again at a Halloween costume party. He asked if I wanted to go to Hallelujah Night at his church on Halloween. I had to decline because it was a tradition to go trick or treating with my sister and dad. However, I did agree to go on a date with him at a later time. We decided to go to the movies. Originally, we planned to watch Venom but the tickets were sold out. So we decided to watch Halloween, which was perfect because I love horror movies. He was frightened the whole time while I laughed. The date ended wonderfully. After our second date at Starbucks (my favorite date), I knew I wanted to continue seeing him. We had a delightful conversation where we detailed our goals, aspirations, likes, and dislikes. Although I was nervous, I felt like I could ask him anything. At the beginning of our second semester, we both decided to change our majors to history. We took the same courses and established lasting bonds with our classmates and professors. UAB wrote an article about our love story. On Halloween 2020, Caleb proposed to me while wearing a costume. He was a farmer. I was a scarecrow. He made my favorite holiday even better. In 2022, we graduated together from UAB. Now, we are beginning our next chapter. It has been a pleasure growing with each other.
