Warm Springs
FDR's Legacy: FDR used the springs for his polio treatment, establishing the Georgia Warm Springs Foundation (now Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute) and building his Little White House there, which is now a historic site. Natural Springs: The constant 88°F spring water flows year-round, known for its buoyancy and therapeutic properties, attracting visitors since the 19th century. Historic Town: The area grew around the springs, developing into a charming small town with historic buildings, shops, restaurants, and a significant role in American history.
Pine Mountain
With more than 9,000 acres, F.D. Roosevelt is the largest state park in Georgia. Backpack the 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail to see waterfalls, forests and creeks brimming with wildlife. At Dowdell’s Knob, there’s a life-sized statue of FDR to commemorate the spot where he picnicked. Go for a swim in the spring-fed Liberty Bell swimming pool, a Civilian Conservation Corps project. Visit Callaway Gardens and take in raptor shows, let butterflies alight on kiddos’ heads, walk through the azalea garden and bike along more than 10 miles of trails.
